Citizenship and Social Development

Curriculum Objectives

The Citizenship and Social Development curriculum is closely connected with the “General Studies” curriculum at the primary and junior secondary stages to help students to consolidate their knowledge of various subjects, focusing on the study of different topics from multiple perspectives as well as the development of personal knowledge, skills and attitudes.

The subject provides a platform for students to explore related topics, allowing them to have a clear understanding of the society, the country and the contemporary world. An integral part of the curriculum also includes a visit to the Mainland.

This curriculum is developed in line with the contents of the national curriculum for better connectivity. The arrangement and content design of each unit focus on the study of different situational topics, to provide students with opportunities to synthesize and apply what they have learned in the past, and to broaden and deepen their knowledge base through exploration and investigation. The subject helps students to develop knowledge, skills, positive values and attitudes to prepare them for their future life.

Learning topics

The subject covers three learning topics:

Hong Kong under "One Country, Two Systems"

The country since the reform and opening up

The interconnected contemporary world
